Stay Healthy and Safe on your Maldives Vacation

Written by Caitlyn Howells on December 28th, 2008

The Maldives are a relatively safe place to visit health-wise. There are a huge number of resorts and many of them are four or five stars. Before travelling to the Maldives you are advised to get immunisations for Diphtheria, Tetanus, Polio, Hepatitis A & Hepatitis B. If you intend to dive on your vacation you should get a medical check from your doctor before you travel.

Most resorts will have adequate facilities to treat minor problems but you might consider taking a basic medical kit with plasters, bandages etc just in case.

Common health problems suffered by travellers include heatstroke and exhaustion, motion sickness and sunburn — all of which can be avoided if you are sensible and take care of yourself. Be careful when spending time in the water as you may suffer bites or stings.

The well known resorts on the Islands have very high standards with regards to food quality and most employ highly skilled professional chefs so dining is usually very safe. You should however avoid the tap water and drink only bottled water on your vacation.
