What You Should Pack for your Maldives Holiday

Written by Caitlyn Howells on December 29th, 2008

Packing for any vacation can be quite stressful as you’re never quite sure what you should put in your suitcase and what you can leave behind. Here are some of the things you should pack for your Maldives holiday.

  • Clothing. Most of the resorts are quite casual so you will need beachwear for the day time. Evening meals tend to require smarter dress so men should pack at least one long sleeved shirt and a pair of long trousers. If you plan on visiting the mosque in Male women will need to cover up appropriately. Make sure you pack a light tshirt or a swim shirt to ensure you do not get burnt when snorkelling.
  • Diving. If you are an experienced diver you will need to bring your log book. If you only plan to snorkel you might want to consider buying a good quality mask at your local diving store.
  • Sun block. The Maldives are tropical islands and therefore the sun is strong. You can buy sunblock at your resort but it will be expensive. Make sure you pack sufficient sunblock for your vacation and select a higher factor than you usually would.
  • Electricity adapter. Electricity in Maldives is 230 Volts, alternating at 50 cycles per second. If you have any devices that do not accept 230 volts at 50 Hertz you will need to pack a voltage converter.
  • Camera. With some of the most stunning scenery you are ever likely to see make sure you bring your camera and plenty of memory cards. Consider buying a Olympus Stylus 1030SW 10.1MP Digital Camera What You Should Pack for your Maldives Holiday which works underwater — perfect for taking photos of all of those tropical fish!
  • Books. When you’re not swimming and snorkelling you are likely to spend many hours just sitting by the ocean. Most of the resorts do not have televisions (on purpose) so make sure bring enough books and magazines.
  • Footwear. You’ll want a decent pair of sandals for the day and evening, and flip flops for the beach. If you plan on going in the water bring some neoprene booties to protect your feet from the coral.
  • First aid kit. A basic one will be fine — just in case you get any cuts or scrapes in the ocean. You should also bring suitable medication for headaches and upset stomachs.
